Going Bye-Bye

The 13th European Convention has ended!

We of the Perfect Day Tent who helped to organise the event have happy memories. We want to thank all of you who participated. We may have made the framework but all of us together made the Convention!

At the Grand Council, Prato in Italy was chosen as the venue of the next European Convention in 2021. Hosting tent will be the Block-Heads (Teste Dure) of Prato in Tuscany, close to Florence. Details will be available in a few weeks.

We will let you know when the slideshow of pictures taken during the convention is ready on the site of the Perfect Day Tent.

Bram Reijnhoudt

Bowler Dessert thanks Bram and all his marvellous team for a truly memorable convention. What fun we had! You can see our own small offering of photos HERE.

Sem’s a star

One of the most memorable moments of the European Convention was provided by

Sem Donkers who is 12 years old. He is Dutch, but delivered a sketch in English! What’s more, he write the script himself!

Fin in the news

Alistair Young, member of the Call of the Cuckoos Tent and proud relative of James Finlayson, reports that the BBC’s The One Show ran an item featuring James Finlayson on 7th June. He says, “Unfortunately The One Show was not shown in Scotland! D’oooh ! You could not write a script like this - filmed in Scotland, edited in Belfast and not shown in Scotland.”

Alistair and other relatives of Fin, including Stephen Rettie (below), who featured in the programme, will be at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall in Glasgow on Wednesday 19th June, when the Call of the Cuckoos Tent will be screening classic Laurel and Hardy films. The show starts at 7.00pm and all are welcome.

The Perry Winkle

What can we say about The Perry Winkle that we have not said before about its excellence? With 82 issues under editor Roger Robinson’s belt, there really is nothing to add except our usual recommendation. Don’t miss this great magazine.

Stan & Ollie DVD and Blu-ray

I've posted Ian Self's brilliant review of the Stan & Ollie DVD and Blu-ray as a news/blog item https://beauchumps.wordpress.com/2019/06/06/stan-and-ollie-the-blu-ray/ . Please try and visit and have a read, Ian has put a lot of work into this and if you are 50/50 on investing in the DVD or Blu-ray, this should convince you of the error of your ways!

Laughing Gravy Tent

At our tent meeting on 6th June around 115 people turned, up including Gary Winstanley from the Dirty Work Tent of Wigan (well he's got nothing to do after hosting the convention).

Chris collected his certificate for winning the Flying Deuces Challenge, and lovely Jackie collected over £80 for the Sandwell Young Carers.

And Pat provided some great raffle prizes as well.

Thanks to everyone who came along.

May Bank Holiday 2020

I've just read something which could be of significance to those attending Janice's Convention next year. May Day Bank Holiday 2020 (was Monday 4th May) has been moved to Friday 8th May 2020 in order to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day. People going to the Convention may now find that they need to book an extra day off work to account for Monday 4th May.

Fred’s car

I checked with Fred Terris after Wigan, as to how he got on with his car repairs [following his accident approaching the convention, which was not Fred's failt]. As suspected the cost of the repair was more than the market value of the car. So it was "written off”. He has just emailed me a photo of his new replacement. It’s almost identical and he seems happy with it. But no doubt he could have well done without the worry, multiple phone calls and hassle.
