The Perry Winkle

It would perhaps be rash to say that the latest edition of The Perry Winkle is the best yet. But I am certainly tempted to do so!

It has an outstanding article (the first of four) based on information gleaned from Tit Bits magazines from 1936. Eric Schultz has an in-depth article based on the movie Stan & Ollie. I must praise Eric for his very perceptive evaluation. The lead article is about silence in Laurel and Hardy films. There is something on Thelma Todd, Adhemar Gonzaga (“Who?” I hear you ask), the book A Perfect Day for the Movies, the play The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel, all the regular articles (Another Nice Message, Duck Soup by Dave Wyatt, Harry Hoppe’s Treasures of the Laurel & Hardy Archive, Winkling with Willie McIntyre, and Cockles & Mussels).

As always, highly recommended.

Elland Cinema event cancelled

“Stan Fan” saw this on the Facebook page for the Rex Cinema in Elland, where the Laurel and Hardy evening was due to take place on Saturday March 28th. He wants to share the news.

Firstly, due to many queries, it is with great sadness that will be re-scheduling our Laurel and Hardy evening following government guidelines in relation to large gatherings and customers’ safety being our number one priority. The new date will be published when more information becomes available as to when the industry will be able to run as normal with no limitations in place. For anybody with pre-booked tickets, these will still stand for the new date with your original ticket stub or online booking receipt. Anybody who cannot make the new date, when published, will be entitled to a refund but we hope you will still be able to join us for our annual get-together.

Laughing Gravy Tent

The next Laughing Gravy Tent meeting, on Thursday 2nd April, has now been cancelled. It would have been our 27th birthday. Anyway I hope all our members stay safe, and I'll look forward to having a pint or two the next time we meet.

We have decided to cancel the next two Saps at Sea Tent meetings. We have to put everyone’s health first.

Anth Q came up with Granolavirus as something Stan would be likely to say. So henceforth, Granolavirus it is. In the light of Government Guidance and the ongoing Granolavirus situation, it seems that we must cancel our April meeting on Weds 8th, This is both regrettable and disappointing as, amongst many other reasons, the new banner will be ready by then, but better safe than sorry, methinks.

Anth also sent this highly topical pic of Ollie and wife Lottie (Mae Busch) from Sons of the Desert.

We apologise for mentioning only a few, representative examples of meetings and events which have been cancelled and postponed. There are many! Please contact individual organisers for specific news and updates.

Guess who?

It's none other than Mae Busch!
