To All Delegates at the 41st UK Convention 2023
It's disappointing to report that the Cumbria Grand Hotel, our venue for the Convention is FULLY BOOKED for the four days in the week prior to our conclave.
Yes, that means any of you [and me] who wanted to book an extra night or two before the Convention cannot now do so as things stand.
The accommodations manager at the hotel advised me that they have four coach parties of people booked in during the four days prior to our Convention.
She went on to say that closer to the time they may well have more accurate numbers of coach travellers and so they might not be taking the entire hotel, but as things stand today, they are.
On the one hand I'm glad that the hotel is busy, but on the other hand very disappointed to hear that we can't book nights prior to the Convention.
I intend to compile a list of those delegates who would like to stay an extra night before the Convention so that I can let the hotel have the list and so take up rooms which may become available at a date closer to the Convention.
I'm as disappointed as some of you are, but we'll do our best to be ready to take up any rooms that become available.
Please let me know if you would be interested in staying an extra night [Thursday 27th] and I will put a list together, my name is at the top right now.
And to finish on a high, we have 117 delegates as of today.

Bonnie Scotland Tent
It was exactly 4 months until Christmas, so you can guess which feature was the feature, no it wasn’t Block-Heads – that’ll likely be for November. One Good Turn was the short and we finished the evening with Push Button Kitty and the pup made an appearance in That’s My Pup. Bonnie Scotlanders and the bar staff did very well with the raffle prizes.
At the races
At present there are two horses in training in the UK and it would be perfect if they ran in the same race.
Los Angeles photos
After a couple of busy post-convention weeks which included a wonderful afternoon at the Laurel and HarDay in Wigan, I’ve finally managed to complete a 'report' of my visits to many of the Laurel and Hardy filming locations in and around Los Angeles. I was there in 2016, but this time , I had a guide. Here's a couple of pics.
Dave Greim shared his knowledge and enthusiasm and we had a splendid day. Here though, with many more pics, is the a link to the blog which looks at some of the sights and sites we visited - On-the-Trail-of-Laurel-and-Hardy-in-Los-Angeles.
Did you recognise the Perfect Day house?
Or the Big Business house?
I'm sure you'll know this location!
Paul Hickling recently gave his daughter away at her wedding at Hollywood House in Belper.
The rooms are movie themed and in the basement bar he encountered a couple of familiar faces.
BS - by sheer coincidence my mother attended a wedding at the same venue 3 weeks previously and had mentioned that she had seen them.
