The Boys are back in town
For many years people drove along the main road in Greenock and admired a pair of statues of Laurel and Hardy which were standing proudly at the window of a house opposite Battery Park.
Eventually the owner had to downsize and gave the statues to her dad. He put them in his garden and in time they deteriorated. They were even vandalised. Kids throwing stones broke off one of Stan’s hands.
With the owner’s blessing, the statues were rescued by Phoenix Car Club and lovingly restored. They now wear blazers of the Phoenix Car Club and are proudly on show at the club’s premises in South Street in Greenock.
Seen here with the statues is David Faller.
