The Sons of the Desert, Carlisle Tent recently held there 40th birthday party meeting. The branch of the worldwide Laurel and Hardy Society was formed 40 years ago.
The first meeting in the Citadel Restaurant was opened by the Mayor Alan Graham. Moving around the city the tent eventually settled at the Ex Services Club in Albert Street.
The birthday party was attended by the usual bunch of Sods. Visitors joined us from, the Paisley, Sunderland and Sheffield Tents. Films were shown along with a 1991 Carlisle Convention film.
Meetings are on the first Tuesday each month, free admission, all ages welcome.
There is more information on the Tent Facebook page at themtharhillscarlisle.
Patrick Butler from Newcastle, now a Sunderland member, brought his raffle prize from the 1981 mini convention to show us. His mum brought him over, in 1991.
