MIKE JONES reports
Mike is the Grand Sheik of the Beau Chumps Tent of Sunderland
There is little doubt that what is happening in and around Ukraine is beyond anything the vast majority of us have experienced and the attack on the children's hospital really affected me. A couple of us Chumps had a brief chat before our tent meeting, which resulted in us putting a fez on the bar for donations, and we also agreed to add 50% of yesterday's raffle proceeds to the hat. One of the Chumps also mentioned setting up a page with one of the funding organisations. I emailed the UK Grand Sheiks, and thanks so much to those who got back in touch in such a short space of time: Their positive comments persuaded me to go ahead with this. and, here we are!
I chose 'Just Giving' as they appear to be the cheapest, MailForce Ukraine as they donate 100%, and only "a small fee" is payable if you use a debit or credit card. A direct bank transfer is fee-free and will mean 100% of your donation will go to the appeal. Don't forget GiftAid too. I'm sure you know this, but If you are a UK resident and it is your own contribution, it can benefit from tax relief, so £20 is turned into £25, and £50 into £62,50 etc. Please click on the link to be taken to the page.
That being said, it doesn't matter where you are in the world - and I'm proud to say that we have almost 100 recipients of our weekly emailed bulletin who live other than in the UK - I am sure we have all been moved by the terrible events that are going on over there which are beyond horrendous, and I hope you can help in this small way.
It would be wonderful if you are able to help, or do something at upcoming meetings and can share this with as many people as possible. Why not encourage them to post their favourite pic of the boys with their donation, that would look splendid!
I've set a modest target of £500, but hope to beat that and to be able to raise the target too - I'm not even sure you can do that, but I hope to be forced into trying!!
Thanks in advance to you all, and please, stay safe, sane, happy and well.
