WILLIE McINTYRE reflects on the 44th UK Convention in May

Goodies bags contained all sorts of souvenirs including a Laurel and Hardy jigsaw puzzle and a Laurel and Hardy Ribik’s cube.

For Joanne Johnson and her Twice Two Tent of St Neots it was their first UK Convention.

Before Spencer J came on stage, we were all given Buddy Holly specs to wear!

We have lost many dear Sons in recent times. Special mention was made of Harry Hoppe and Craig Nightowler, sadly missed.

Pekka Lehtosaari represented Finland and had a special mention from the floor.

Eric Woods took the chair for the final session of the convention.

Gary Winstanley had no problem convincing us that Chester will be a great place for next year’s conclave, in the hands of the Dirty Work Tent and the Our Relations Tent. All places were swiftly booked and a waiting list was introduced!

Michael Schmitz spoke about next year’s European Convention in Bremen and generated much interest

Eric Woods

Much interest was also expressed on the proposal to host the 2028 UK Convention in Belfast, hosted by the Laughing Gravy Tent of Co Down. Ciarran Hanna spoke enthusiastically.

Janice Hawton reminded us of the Spiff Up being held in Glasgow on 6th June, commencing at 2pm in The Sir John Moore pub near Central Station.

Dave Tomlinson invited us to his Boys at the Bull Inn event in Bottesford on 13th June.

Mike Jones spoke of the annual film show at the Forum Cinema in Hexham, this year being held on 15th August.

Talking of annual events, don’t forget the Laurel and HarDay in Wigan on 5th September.

Enormous thanks go to Ray, Emma, Roger and Paul and their team at the Saps at Sea Tent for giving us such a successful convention, filled with something for everyone. It was simply great!
