Call of the Cuckoos Tent, Glasgow

Flying Elephants Tent, Bolton
The July meeting has been moved to Tuesday June 30th at the request of Hardy Hall. Laurel and Hardy film requests are invited.
Laurel and Hardy Museum, Germany
I keep getting calls on the weekends, asking if our Laurel and Hardy Museum in Walder Kotten is open. Of course I'm sorry to cancel, but the opening is now on the last weekend of the month, so this time on the 27th and 28th June. Opening by appointment is always possible. Stan is celebrating his 136 birthday on the 16th June, so he will take centre stage with his movies in front of Ollie.

Michael Tate
Remember Michael Tate (aka Mark Tuthill), who entertained us at many Sons events in decades gone by? He is still entertaining folks and doing well.

Men o’ War Tent
First I must say thank you to everyone who was able to attend the meeting last Saturday (it was a great audience, great atmosphere and about 35 attending) and welcome to our new members who 'signed up' on the evening.
The hall was not available for June bookings so we're starting our summer break a bit earlier than usual but we will be back for our next meeting on 12th September. Details, as usual, will be coming up on the website and in emails.

Inspiring Buddy
I watched the classic John Wayne's western The Searchers. In it he plays a character called Ethan Edwards, who uses the phrase, “That'll be the day," several times.
In the film, the main protagonist is a native American called Scar, played by actor Henry Brandon, who is familiar to us as villainous Barnaby in Babes in Toyland (real name Heinrich von Kleinbach, born in Berlin).
In Norwich we were entertained by the excellent Buddy Holly tribute act (I think you'll see where this is going). According to Wikipedia Holly was inspired to write his song, following a visit to the cinema...
In June 1956, [Buddy] Holly along with his older brother Larry as well as Allison and Sonny Curtis went to see the film The Searchers, starring John Wayne, in which Wayne repeatedly used the phrase "That'll be the day". This line of dialogue inspired the young musicians.
