You Don't Believe Me
New book from MIKE JONES
I’ve been working on another book - again for Charity - and it’s here! Well, almost. Production delays mean I’m not expecting copies until the second week in Octember, but if anyone would like to get in early, I’ll post them out, signed and dedicated if required, the day after they land. More details can be found here and thank you in advance for your support.https://beauchumps.wordpress.com/.../you-dont-believe-me...

Well, I’m afraid I’ve gone and done it again. Perhaps you should believe me though as a second book from yours truly – a follow up to ‘Twas Ever Thus – will be available from the second week in Octember. Again, all proceeds will go to charity and it is another labour of love. This time though, I’ve looked at several themes within Laurel and Hardy pictures, and you can see a full list of contents below.
There are a few less pages this time at 232 (‘Twas Ever Thus had 273) but again, there are over 300 images, many of which are in colour. I’ve again managed around 56,000 words – why use a short phrase when an extremely long one will do!
My good friend Rogerrrr Robinson has written a splendid foreword where his usual observational wit is front and centre, and I have again ‘borrowed’ from a number of my far more learned peers with their permission, and all are of course credited throughout and mentioned in the bibliography.
The cost of each is only £10.00 and I’m more than happy to sign and dedicate these if you are happy with my illegible scribbling devaluing an otherwise thoroughly interesting book – well I would say that, wouldn’t I?
These can ship anywhere in the UK for £13.00 – email me at beauchumpssunderland@gmail.com.
Pubicity material reads...
The first book in the series looked at the wonderful films of Laurel and Hardy from A to Z which was in itself unusual, but made for a very simple reference volume of basic facts on the pictures. That being said, there is nothing ‘basic’ about Stan and Ollie’s films: The detail that can be found in the productions right across their entire career deserves much scrutiny, as we all know that several ‘tried and tested’ routines were often reworked and, in many cases, perfected. This volume looks at several of these plus much, much more.
Like ‘Twas ever Thus, the book is written with love, enthusiasm and essentially for Charity. I am not an author; indeed I suffers many grammatical challenges and have a certain proclivity for a ‘typo’ or three. However, you can hopefully overlook these (assuming you find any) and enjoy reading my scribbles – the writings of a passionate enthusiast.
In the contents list you will find the following:

• Foreword
• Introduction
• Stan on Ollie, Ollie on Stan
• The Films in Release Date Order
• Laurel and Hardy Supporting Cast
◦ Mae Busch
◦ James Finlayson
◦ Anita Garvin
◦ Billy Gilbert
◦ Charlie Hall
◦ Arthur Housman
◦ Edgar Kennedy
◦ Walter Long
◦ Thelma Todd
• Twelve things to do with a Piano
• Laurel and Hardy in Colour
I've stayed away from approximating the cost of multiple copies but if you would like to order several for friends and other tent members etc, please contact me at beauchumpssunderland@gmail.com, and I’ll get a price for you.
Please remember that once all costs are covered all proceeds go to the tent and ultimately to our Charity which is The Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen, and my humble and grateful thanks to anyone and everyone who chooses to invest their ‘hard-earned’ in this venture. To date, ”Twas Ever Thus’ has meant we have been able to donate around £1,500 to the kitchen, which we are rather proud of and it is hoped that ‘You Don’t Believe Me!‘ will help us donate a similar amount.
If you have any questions, please don’t be shy; just click on beauchumpssunderland@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
